James F. Meyer
September 17, 1939 – May 17, 2012
Throughout my life I had heard of skin cancer and from time to time I would hear that someone died from a skin cancer of one type or another. When I would hear that I always thought to myself, “wow, died from Skin Cancer?” My friends and family have heard me say many times that I personally did not give Melanoma enough credit for being such an nasty, horrible and sneaky cancer.
From my Dad’s first diagnosis he fought with everything he had. He went to MD Anderson and had his a deep tissue melanoma removed and went back for a month of radiation just like his doctors recommended. Faithfully went to his PET scans, return visits to MD Anderson and his local oncologist. Things went fantastic for 4 years when bad news came that it had come back and was Stage IV thus starting a 4 month journey for our Dad that he took with courage and grace. He was not alone on this journey, many friends, family, church family came together and walked with him.
Jim Meyer was a loving husband to his wife Pat for 50 years, proud Father of three, Grandfather of 8, Army Veteran, 34 year employee of Amoco Oil company, member of Knights of Columbus Council 10932, member of Lions International, Community Volunteer and Co-Founder of the Whispering Pines family cabin in Outing, MN.
It’s almost been a year since Dad went to Heaven and we miss him every day. We were lucky to have him as our Father and Friend. We are left with sadness and joy, sad he’s not with us anymore but tremendous joy knowing that he’s in Heaven healthy and happy watching over us every day.
